With more than 1200 institutions and over 22000 courses, Australia offers a variety of learning options to international students. The majority of universities in Australia are self accredited, they usually run under a state/ territory level legislation. Program content at these universities is set by the university giving them freedom to set their own requirements and coursework for the program offered. itself and not controlled by any government body.
There are several options to study in Australia at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Level 1 – 7 are for undergraduate studies, level 8 is between undergraduate and postgraduate, level 9 and level 10 are for the postgraduate level .
Australia accepts 15 years of education for a Master’s and an MBA, which means an Indian 3 year Bachelor’s will be enough to study here.
Undergraduate:
Certificate Courses: Level 1-7
These certificates take somewhere between 6 months to one year. Level 1 & 2 certificates are similar to those that you find for jobs that require roughly no formal training. Level 3 & 4 certificates teach more specialized and technical skills.
Diploma: Level 5
Diplomas take about 6 months to 2 years and teach higher cognitive and technical knowledge in the selected field. These could be required for paraprofessional/ highly skilled work or for further learning.
Advanced Diploma and Associate Degree: Level 6
This degree takes between 2-3 years. It counts for approximately 3 to 4 semesters of bachelor’s work. Advanced diplomas are awarded to students studying technical or vocational fields, while associate’s degrees are awarded for more academic fields of study.
Minimum requirement usually is at least 10th std result.
Bachelor’s Degrees (Level 7)
Standard undergraduate degree which requires 3-4 years for completion.
Double/ Combined Bachelors:
A combination of two bachelor degrees. You will receive two bachelor degrees in lesser time than taking both the degrees separately. This is as good as being able to select two fields of study and combining them. Common in the fields of arts, commerce, science and law. The benefits from taking a combined degree are that you decide the combination of two degrees, you will receive two degrees at your graduation. In some cases your combined degree will go up to 4 years full time. Your career options will increase after graduating with a combined degree, the employer will consider you since you will be a multi skilled employee.
Bachelor Honours Degrees (Level 8):
You can obtain an honours degree either by taking an extra year of bachelor studies (for 3-year bachelor’s) or by finishing your bachelor studies with high grades (for 4-year bachelors).
Graduate Certificates and Graduate Diplomas (Level 8):
These certificates and diplomas are usually taken after completing your Bachelor degree. Graduate diplomas are between 1-2 years, graduate certificates are between 6 months – 1 year.
Postgraduate:
Master’s Degrees (Level 9):
Australia has a number of private as well as public institutions that provide a masters degree. You can pursue a Master’s degree in a number of fields including business, sciences, media, public administration, health, nursing, engineering, architecture, fine arts, psychology and many more. These are the higher levels of postgraduate instruction. Master’s degrees are usually focused on advancing the academics and takes about 1 – 2 years to obtain the degree. MBA:
To study an MBA in Australia you will have a variety of specialisations on offer. Most of the universities require approximately 2 years of work experience. The MBA lasts somewhere between 1 – 2 years. The GMAT exam is not always required for admission, but it’s best to check with the specific university. We’ll do that for you, don’t worry! Don’t forget, an MBA requires some amount of work experience, 3 years in most cases, but there are universities which don’t require any work experience as well.
Doctorate Degrees (Level 10):
Graduates at this level have systematic and critical understanding of a complex field of learning and specialized research skills for the advancement of their career or learning. A doctorate is the highest level of education that you can receive anywhere in the world. Doctoral degrees take anywhere between 3 – 6 years to complete. Australia’s AQF includes PhD’s, M.D.’s, DPT’s, law degrees, DDS’s, and a lot more.

Master’s Coursework:
postgraduate level rigorous academic coursework and project work. Includes a research component in some fields and a thesis may be required for completion. A graduate diploma will be awarded in cases where a thesis has not been submitted.

involves considerable research and completion of a major, externally assessed thesis.
Extended Master’s:
preparation for professional practice in fields such as social work, medicine, physiotherapy, speech pathology, law or other professional fields.
